HTC has confirmed that its Vive virtual reality headset will be available to pre-order on February 29.
There’s still no word on how much the VR device will cost, but orders are set to ship in April, The Telegraph reports.
If the Oculus Rift’s £500 price tag is anything to go by, don’t expect the Vive to be cheap – and cost may not be the only caveat.
Graphics chip maker Nvidia reckons that only around 13 million of the world’s two billion PCs will be capable of running VR effectively, and – in the Vive’s case – you’ll need a spacious room to walk around in.
HTC recently unveiled the latest developer version of its headset, the Vive Pre, which has a more ergonomic build with a sleeker design and a reworked controller.
It is yet to be confirmed whether the Pre will also serve as the consumer edition of the Vive, but its design is expected to be close to final.
