The battle between life plans and phone battery is a never-ending struggle.
Sure, you’d love to leave your pit any time you wish, but such an effort is impossible without consulting your battery icon and going through some rigorous planning.
After all, what if you’re forced to miss a golden Instagram opportunity, or somehow get lost after walking for five minutes?
Well, in a world full of humans who can’t survive without a smartphone attached to their palm, Qualcomm has unveiled an improved solution to stave off the dreaded red of the low battery.
Building upon previous technology, the tech giant has announced that Quick Charge 4 will be available on the next-generation Snapdragon 835 processor.
For those of you rocking a high-end handset, Quick Charge 4 will provide five or more hours of juice in just five minutes of charging — time that you can fill by showering and getting yourself prepared for human contact and the rest of the outside world.
Using Dual Charge, Qualcomm’s parallel charging tech, users can also enjoy up to 20% faster charging compared with Quick Charge’s last-gen tech.
“As mobile devices become more capable and feature rich, people tend to use them more. That’s why consumer demand and awareness for fast-charging solutions is now at an all-time high,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm.
“Quick Charge 4 addresses that need by providing up to 50% battery charge in roughly 15 minutes or less, so you don’t have to spend all day chained to your charging cable.”
After Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 debacle, which saw the smartphones combust while charging, customers across the globe are no doubt shielding their eyes every time they plug their device in.
And while you may think that speedy charging could perhaps compound such a potential problem, Qualcomm indicated that Quick Charge 4 comes with ample safety features for both the adapter and the smartphone to play nicely.
Not only are things like temperature, voltage and the current all measured and protected, an additional layer of support is also being added to prevent the battery from over-charging. Phew!
Of course, with Qualcomm only set to release the Snapdragon 835 in commercial devices in the first half of 2017, you still have a little bit to wait before you can evolve your charging efforts.
