How do you move (not copy) files from Windows desktop to another folder?

Using Windows I select and drag file(s) from one location (e.g., Windows desktop) to another location. Instead of moving the file, a copy is made and gets put to where I want to move the file. What setting must I change to attain this? Thank you knowledgeable experienced respondents.

Right-click the file and drag it to wherever you want it, then let go of the right mouse button, and you can choose to move or copy it at that point.
