How to Upgrade Your Verizon Mi-Fi Firmware to Fix Connection Problems

If you’ve got a Verizon Mi-Fi and you’re having problems with it disconnecting all the time, there’s a quick and easy fix—you’ll just need to upgrade the firmware to the latest version. Here’s how to do it, and fix your connection issues.

If you aren’t experiencing any issues at all, you might not want to upgrade, but in our experience, the Mi-Fi will sometimes disconnect in certain areas—and this is the solution. Once you’ve run the update, the problems are mostly gone.

Note: there are a number of difference Mi-Fi type of devices from Verizon, and the same process should work for all of them.

Upgrading Your Mi-Fi Firmware

The first thing you’ll need to do is head over to the VZAccess Manager page and download the firmware upgrade for your device—be sure to select the correct device first, and then you’ll get to a page where you can download it:

Plug in your device using the USB cable that came with it. Make sure that the power light comes on—you might need to install VZAccess Manager first, which is what we did, so just to be safe, it might be worthwhile to install it and make sure the device is detected.

Next, open up the Device Upgrade Utility that you downloaded, which should detect your device. If it doesn’t, you may have to install VZAccess Manager first.

It’s a fairly straight-forward process, just keep clicking next and such.

It’ll take quite a while, but it’ll finally finish.

That’s all there is to it. Your device should be working much better now.
