Twitter targets Instagram with larger images and photo-centric update

Twitter’s not just about 140-characters anymore. The micro-blogging site is big on the picture-sharing front and is now coming after Instagram with its new, larger images.

Rolling out to desktop-based Twitter users on December 7, uncropped photos will now appear on your timeline, offering a more visually appealing experience and saving you having to click small, cropped snaps to get the big picture.

As well as letting you share snaps as they should be seen, the latest Twitter update is also introducing a number of new collaging options.

The larger multi-photo displays let you put more focus on certain shots, instead of giving equal weighting to all images.

Part of a continued push to make Twitter more visually enticing and media-rich, today’s imaging updates come just months after Facebook’s rival added auto-play videos and its Moments feature.

It is currently unclear when the image-heavy update will be rolled out to app-based users.
